“ kevin dooley pilots the rhythm-powered starship known as zer0 0ne. With prot0type2, he launches into an immaculate universe of mid-tempo beats and bright celestial body-movers. In one hour, he skillfully navigates through nine tracks which embody a very "classic" vein of analog synthesis, while propelling it starward with slick e-drumming and scattered film samples. Crisp undulating waves and several flavors of twinkling arpeggios take a leisurely roll through time and space, facing the p0ssibilities of a different life (according to the occasional movie voices within). Robotically dyspeptic groans gurgle beneath the bright, bleepy tones which course through mem0ry to be joined by inerstellar sax sounds which wormhole with the light beats. While I%27m distracted by the android chants of tw0 (oogie eeha), I can%27t help but be levitated by the shimmering beatstructure upon which they reside alongside space-diva wails and a percolating sequence of e-piano. Melancholy chimes are perked up by stuttering rhythmification during a plaintive stellar seArch (8:13) for light etherealities and middle-Eastern-ish moods which include warbly fluting and (sometimes helium-voiced) chants. Surrounded by a simmering radiation belt, innEr spAce entwines womanly whispers, light rhythms and ringing keys into a realm of dreamy grooviness. E-drums do the hip-hop thing with the spattering percussion of blueShift (5:59) which simultaneously struts and drifts. Bassy bubbles, wordless male croons and hazy xylophonics mark thiNk while closing number m0dule spouts a crystalline cascade of upward-tinkling notes as if in lessening gravity. If space is the place you race to embrace, transmit yourself into zer0 0ne%27s quadrant of electronic activities. prot0type2 smoothly grooves with impeccable arrangements and sharp production. ”
